Charleston Wine + Food Festival
The Charleston Wine + Food Festival® is a celebration of Charleston's culinary excellence and renowned culture, which benefits scholarship programs for the culinary and hospitality workplace. Serving over 23,000 guests at over 85 events, this annual four day festival takes place the first full weekend in March and attracts some of the most celebrated culinary professionals and winemakers in the world.
Charleston wine + food is a cultural entity that infuses homegrown flavor with top chefs, winemakers, authors, storytellers, artisans, and food enthusiasts from around the globe for a five-day event that spans the first full weekend each March. People first we believe that charleston's culinary community has received world-wide recognition because of the people that live and work in our kitchens and dining rooms, on our farms, behind our bars, and in front of our guests. We are only as good as our city's talent and our festival partners. Community charleston's food culture is a national treasure, and charleston wine + food exists as a cultural entity that unifies our city through culinary experience. We are fed by a contagious passion for the people and places that make charleston worth celebrating. Diversity charleston wine + food believes that contributions of people with diverse personal characteristics (including but not limited to social status, race, ethnicity, religion, age, geographic location, sexual orientation, gender and type of disability) are valuable and influence our city's culinary industry. We strive to be inclusive and accessible. Good stewardship charleston wine + food strives to be a good steward of our city and its foodways. Our priority is to create an annual economic injection that fuels charleston's vibrancy and growth. In order to create positive economic impact for our local food + beverage community, we have formed strategic partnerships with the college of charleston and one80 place training. The festival by the numbers the 2018 festival welcomed 29,072 guests of which 13,780 arrived from outside the charleston, south carolina area. The festival had a 15,300,000 impact over the five-day period. The 2018 festival included 116 events: 21 signature events 37 signature dinners 10 hands-on classes 28 beverage workshops 12 brunches + lunches 8 excursions experts and other talented professional impacting the event: 400 chefs 141 beverage specialists 62 artists, experts and purveyors 85 members of the media giving back: our measured economic is the largest measure of our give back. In 2018 that was measured at 15.3 million over the course of the festival and this year's numbers just came back from the college of charleston at 18.6 million. During the 2018 festival, 4,600 pounds of rescued and donated food and 30,000 was raised and given to one80 place, a charleston, south carolina nonprofit that provides food, shelter and hope to its guests. The festival also provided: 2 scholarships to deserving students at the college of charleston enrolled in a hospitality and tourism management program. 8 externships - five one80 place trained graduates and 3 enrollees that participated in paid externships. 38 interns - fifteen interns and twenty-three college of charleston fellows participated in festival programs including many from the college's communication's program offering a capstone experience where they server as our "agency of record."
