The Tulsa Zoo is a non-profit zoo located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. The Tulsa Zoo is owned by the City of Tulsa, but since 2010 has been privately managed by Tulsa Zoo Management, Inc. The zoo is located in Mohawk Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the United States.
Tulsa zoo management, inc, formerly tulsa zoo friends, inc, was formed for the purposes of promoting and supporting the improvement of the tulsa zoo and living museum which exihibits over 3,500 animals. The zoo grounds and physical structures are owned by the city of tulsa, but tulsa zoo management has an agreement with the city of tulsa to run all operations at the zoo. These operations include collecting admissions, operating various concessions, operating special events, operating all animal departments, maintaining building and ground maintenance of the zoo, providing security for the zoo, promoting the zoo and maintaining a zoo membership program. Tulsa zoo management is also responsible for directing all fundraising for capital improvements and future exhibits at the tulsa zoo. The zoo completed the osage casino giraffe barn renovation for $1,000,000 which was a key improvement to the zoo. With education core to our mission, the tulsa zoo focuses on programs that help our guests and our community put their environmental education in actions. Our 2,347 educational programs reached 116,352 participants throughout the region and neighboring states. This includes 29,952 students from 619 different schools. During the fiscal year we contributed $76,500 to over 20 of our wildlife conservation partners. The zoo welcomed 690,000 visitors during the fiscal year which is our second highest attendance year on record.
